Three Americans were found dead at a Sandals resort on the Bahamas’ Great Exuma island; officials confirmed that an investigation is underway.

The guests were found deceased shortly after 9 a.m. on Friday, the causes of death and the victims’ identities still remain unknown.

Police reports stated that the bodies were found unresponsive in two different locations on Saturday.

“The officers found a Caucasian male slumped against a wall in a bathroom, unresponsive,” the Royal Bahamas Police Force said. “The woman was also unresponsive. Both individuals showed signs of convulsion. The officers examined the bodies and found no signs of trauma.”

While three were proclaimed dead, a fourth victim, a woman, was brought to a hospital in New Providence and is currently in stable condition.

“We are closely monitoring local authorities’ investigation into the cause of death,” a Department of State spokesperson said. “We stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance. Out of respect for the privacy of the families, we have nothing further to add at this time.”

Bahamian Health Minister Dr. Michael Darville divulged that some hotel guests sought treatment for nausea and vomiting on Thursday and returned to the resort.
