Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok brings back the Norse-themed superhero for his third blockbuster. Today, Marvel Studios uploaded the film’s first teaser.
Thor normally resides in his own corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, usually only descending for the big crossover events. However, the deity’s normal routine has been tampered with, as the villainous Hela, portrayed by Cate Blanchett, is preparing to assault Asgard.
Thor, meanwhile, has been imprisoned on an alien planet, Sakaar. Without his versatile hammer, Thor is forced to fight his fellow Avenger, the Incredible Hulk. While initially overjoyed to see his “friend from work,” Thor’s demeanor instantly changes once he realized that Hulk fully intends to fight him.
Notably, in terms of its tone, the trailer more closely channeled Guardians of the Galaxy‘s personality than the prior Thor films. The iconography of the first two Thor films is present, though, as Hela challenges the Asgardian army in Thor’s absence.
Unsurprisingly, the talent from the previous movies are returning to reprise their characters. Chris Hemsworth is back as the titular Thor, Tom Hiddleston is Loki, and Jeff Goldblum is the Grandmaster. Mark Ruffalo, likewise, will continue to play the Hulk and his human alter-ego, Bruce Banner. Kevin Feige is, as usual, producing, with Taika Waititi directing.
Thor: Ragnarok will drift into theaters on November 3, 2017. Moreover, fans have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 coming on May 5, and Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 7.
