The Marvel comic book adaptation Thor remained king of the box office, taking in $34.5 million this past weekend. Its total gross for its two weekends in theaters is now a whopping $119 million. The action movie stars Australian hunk Chris Hemsworth (pictured) in the title role and Oscar winner Natalie Portman. But the real victory of the May 13 weekend is the female-oriented raunchy comedy Bridesmaids. Even though the movie came in second place, it took in an astounding $24 million, giving producer Judd Apatow his best opening since 2008’s Step Brothers. The movie stars Saturday Night Live star Kristen Wiig (who also co-wrote the film) and features SNL alum Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne (Damages), Ellie Kemper (The Office) and Melissa McCarthy (Mike and Molly).

Fast Five, the fifth Fast and Furious series, came in third with $19.5 million. It beat out the 3-D vampire movie Priest starring Paul Bettany, which grossed a mere $14.5 million. Rounding out the top five is Rio, Dreamworks’ bird-based animated comedy, which took in another $8 million.
