A third movie from the Ace Ventura franchise is in development. The Ace Ventura movie will see Jim Carrey return as the title character after previously starring in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective in 1994 and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls in 1995. This is the fifth project to be released from the Ace Ventura franchise, following the first two films, an animated series and a made for television movie titled Ace Ventura Jr.: Pet Detective, the latter two of which did not feature Carrey in any way. Carrey served as a writer for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective along with Jack Bernstein and director Tom Shadyac. The director for Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls Steve Oedekerk served as the only writer for the sequel. In a similar fashion to the second film, Carrey will not serve as one of the writers. The untitled Ace Ventura sequel will also be simultaneously released in theaters and on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service.

The third Ace Ventura movie will be written by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, who are best known as the writers for the 2020 movie Sonic the Hedgehog, which also featured Carrey as the main antagonist Dr. Ivo Robotnik. In an interview with Park Circus, the production company behind the Ace Ventura films Morgan Creek Entertainment stated, “We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with Exorcist and the Ace Ventura franchise – it’s noticeable from the three million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamoring for a third installment… During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories. Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers.”

Along with the title, the release date for the upcoming third Ace Ventura movie has not yet been revealed. However, fans are nonetheless excited to see Carrey return to his beloved character for the first time since 1995.
