President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted a first-ever concert at the White House Tuesday to honor Juneteenth and Black Music Month. A statement stated that the “South Lawn concert will be a celebration of community, culture and music.”

Among the performers invited to the White House were Jennifer Hudson, who sang “Glory” and “A Change Is Gonna Come.” 

Juneteenth, or Juneteenth National Independence Day, was officially made a federal holiday in 2021 and commemorates the freedom of enslaved African Americans. It is the nation’s newest holiday.

Others invited to perform were: Audra McDonald, Broadway Inspirational Voices, Cliff “Method Man” SmithColman Domingo, Fisk Jubilee Singers, Hampton University Concert Choir, Ledisi, Maverick City Music, Morgan State University Marching Band – The Magnificent Marching Machine, Nicco AnnanPatina Miller, Step Afrika!, Tennessee State University Marching Band – Aristocrat of Bands and “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band.
