The Weeknd Postpones L.A. Show Mid-Concert After Losing His Voice

Pop sensation The Weeknd lost his voice and had to postpone his sold-out Saturday show at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

The 32-year-old Grammy-winner attempted to perform through his medical issue, but was forced to stop after the first few songs of his set.

In the middle of his smash hit, “I Can’t Feel My Face,” he called off the show and briefly left the stage.

The Weeknd came back onstage to address his crowd of 70,000 adoring fans. “I can’t give you the concert I want to give you,” he told them. The “Earned It” singer was clearly upset about the situation.

He then promised, “I’m going to make sure everyone’s good, gets your money back and I’ll do a show real soon for you guys. But I wanted to come out and personally apologize and not tweet it or Instagram it. I wanted you guys to know that I can’t give you what I want to give you. I apologize. I’m so sorry.”

The artist added emotionally, “You know how much this kills me. I love you. Thank you so much.”

Following the show and his onstage announcement, The Weeknd issued a Twitter apology. “My voice went out after the first song and I’m devastated,” he wrote.

“Felt it go and my heart dropped,” he continued. “My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I’ll make it up to you with a new date.”

The Weeknd’s “After Hours Til Dawn” stadium tour has received glowing reviews from several notable publications.

Rolling Stone dubbed the show a “career-spanning extravaganza” that was “well worth the wait.” Variety described the artist as “an avant-garde superstar” and an “aloof lover man.” It called the show experience “a combination of beauty and madness, all contained in a concert that somehow felt intimate in a football stadium with nearly 70,000 devotees.”

The U.S. and Canada leg of the tour is slated to continue on September 22 in Toronto.
