The After Hours album released in March and a deluxe version of the track soon came after that in April. The Weeknd included remixes of some of the songs including a Lil uzi Vert mix of “Heartless” and a Major Lazer mix of the song “Blinding Lights.”
The Weeknd’s original version of “Blinding Lights” held the number one spot on the Rolling Stone’s top 100 songs chart for two weeks straight.
The singer has been active on Instagram as he shares his support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The Weeknd posted on June 2 for Black Out Tuesday, a day that was made to pause normal social media use and reflect on current injustices happening in the world, especially in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
The Weeknd posted two pictures in solidarity. On one he wrote, “keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our black lives. Urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it’s a small amount.”
In the second that he posted he said, “To my fellow respected industry partners and execs- no one profits off of black music more than the labels and streaming services. I gave yesterday and I urge you to go big and public with yours this week. It would mean the world to me and the community if you can join us on this.”
