The Wanted’s Tom Parker Reveals He Has Inoperable Brain Tumor With No Cure

Tom Parker, a member of the British boyband The Wanted,revealed that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma, an inoperable brain tumor with no cure.

“Hey guys, you know that we’ve both been quiet on social media for a few weeks and it’s time to tell you why. There’s no easy way to say this but I’ve sadly been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and I’m already undergoing treatment,” the the 32-year-old said in an Instagram caption of a photo of himself posing with his 1-year-old daughter Aurelia and his wife Kelsey Hardwick who is pregnant with their second child. “We decided, after a lot of thought, that rather than hiding away and trying to keep it a secret, we would do one interview where we could lay out all the details and let everyone know the facts in our own way.”

The couple told Ok! Magazine that they learned of the diagnosis six weeks ago after he suffered from two seizures over the summer. Parker said he was alone when he first got the diagnosis because his wife couldn’t be with him due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“I was in shock,” Parker said in the interview. “It’s stage 4 glioblastoma and they’ve said it’s terminal. It was a lot to deal with by myself. I still haven’t processed it.”

Hardwick said that two of her husband’s bandmates, Max George and Jay McGuinness, had already visited him.

“Siva and Nathan obviously live a lot further away, but all four of the boys have been texting regularly and sending through different articles and possible treatments and therapies that they’re all reading about,” she said. “They’ve been amazing.”

The caption continues: “We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way. We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options. It’s gonna be a tough battle but with everyone’s love and support we are going to beat this.”

Stage 4 glioblastomas cannot be cured and patients have an average survival time of 12-18 months, according to The Brain Tumor Charity. Only 5% of patients live longer than 5 years with this diagnosis. This brain cancer is the same type that killed Sen.John McCain in 2018 and former Vice President Joe Biden‘s son Beau Biden at 46 in 2015.
