The Walking Dead’s Melissa McBride Discusses Season Finale Script: ‘It Was So Very Dark’

The Walking Dead is gearing up for its finale airing soon and actress Melissa McBride opened up about her character Carole’s future and reactions to reading the script.

‘WALKING DEAD’S’ MELISSA MCBRIDE REACTS TO FINALE SCRIPT

The script for season 6, episode 16 of The Walking Dead is apparently going to rock fans’ world according to McBride.

“It was so very dark,” McBride, who plays Carol Peletier on the zombie drama hit show. “I couldn’t say anything after I had finished reading it,” she added. “I felt like I had dropped into a black hole.”

The character of Carol has developed over the years from a  timid and scared mother to a fearless, zombie-killer and one of the most beloved characters on the show. In the latest episode, Carol and Maggie (Lauren Cohen) are in captivity and Carol tries her best to protect her pregnant friend.

“I am so excited about dreading the finale so much because I do, and that excites me. It’s going to be good,” the actress told IGN.

“Fans are going to freak. He’s just this calm evil, and to think of what our group has been through already. The things we’ve come across and faced are nothing compared to Negan, and what our experiences have made of us and the point it has brought us to in ourselves, what is our experience with this guy going to be like? Where is that going to take us to in ourselves? I just, man, I don’t know. Good luck! I’m excited about dreading it so much.”

Her co-stars also weighted in on the haunting script.

“It was the first day in the whole six years of working on The Walking Dead that I was late for work because I woke up in the middle of the night and I couldn’t get back to sleep,” Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes on show, revealed to Entertainment Weekly. “I was so angry and frustrated and I felt sick. And that was just after reading it.”

Cohen also had her own thoughts about the finale. “Andy talks about being late to work; I didn’t want to go to work that day,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “It took a really, really long time for everybody to feel okay again after the finale, let’s put it that way.”

The actress also added: “[Hearing] the word ‘finale’ gives me a physical reaction because it’s the hardest day on set that I’ve ever had in my life. I never even imagined that as an actor you could have that experience. It’s one of the most raw experiences that I think any of us have ever had.
