'The Walking Dead' Spoilers: Season 5 Will Be 'Brutal,' Another Main Character Is 'Highly Likely' To Die

The Walking Dead’s fifth season is fast approaching, promising more zombies and gore for fans of AMC’s comic book adaptation.

‘The Walking Dead’ Spoilers

Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln has stated that while season 5 will continue the show’s trajectory, everything is about to get even darker than it’s been.

“The show is the same story moving forward, but because their leader is incredibly uncompromising, I think he is dragging a lot of those people into a place that is darker, more brutal, and there will be fallout from that,” Lincoln told Entertainment Weekly. “So it feels like it’s a more grown-up show. It feels like we’re heading into the heart of darkness. Brutal is the word for this season. It’s always been pretty intense, but this season I think is very hard-hitting. People should be prepared for that, I think.”

As for Rick, Lincoln promises that the de facto group leader has regained a sense of self and will be a more solid and confident force than he’s been in the past couple of seasons. “Rick is probably at the most complete place he’s been ever since the apocalypse started,” said the actor. “He’s a man who doesn’t doubt himself anymore, and he’s accepted his brutality as much as his humanity. So I think he’s in an incredibly powerful and dangerous place.”

‘Walking Dead’s Season 4 Finale, Deaths

At the conclusion of The Walking Dead’s fourth season, a large number of the group becomes trapped in a train car in the cannibal village of Terminus. According to executive producer Robert Kirkman, who is known to be tight-lipped about the series, divulged that they do make it out.

“They definitely get out of that of that train car,” Kirkman told EW Radio. “They do not spend the entirety of Season 5 in that train car. It is through ingenuity, creativity, and somewhat savageness that they can make it out of the train car. There will be the resolution.”

Who lives after escaping the train car, however, remains more or less a mystery. While Rick Grimes (Lincoln), Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Carol (Melissa McBride) and Tara (Alanna Masterson) appear to survive, as the actors have all recently appeared on set – that doesn’t mean they’ll all make it to the end of the season.

Kirkman, who enjoys the rumor that Glenn (Steven Yeun) might be getting offed, has conceded that it shouldn’t be a surprise if Glenn or another main character dies in season 5.

“It’s always highly likely, though I wouldn’t say that it’s any more likely than it ever is, but it is always extremely likely,” Kirkman told The Hollywood Reporter. “We did pull back on the reins a little bit at the end of season four. We’re definitely going to hit the ground running for season five and we really don’t let up very quickly at all.”

The Walking Dead will air its fifth season premiere, “No Sanctuary,” on AMC on Oct. 12.
