‘The Walking Dead’ Season Finale ‘The Storm’ Doesn’t Go For Blood

After last week’s episode of The Walking Dead, fans anticipated a violent finale, but last night’s episode, “The Storm,” was instead a meditative episode about survivor’s guilt during a blizzard.

Months have passed since the deaths of Henry and the others, and winter has set in. The Kingdom, unable to sustain its infrastructure, falls apart, leaving Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and his friends to find shelter elsewhere.

Their initial plan is to take shelter in Sanctuary, but the group fearing being trapped inside by the blizzard, decides to pass through Whisper territory for safety.

Their journey through the snow is fought with tension. Lydia (Cassady McClincy) contemplates suicide as she feels responsible for what Alpha did. Carol (Melissa McBride) breaks-up with Ezekiel, and when she tries to return the ring, he insists she keep it, telling her he’ll always love her. And Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) saves Judith (Cailey Fleming), who is suffering from hypothermia, and carries her to shelter.

The group makes their way through Whisper territory, and find shelter in Alexandria, when the storm begins to subside. As everyone regroups, a mysterious voice comes out from the radio saying, “Hello, can you hear me? Is anybody out there?”

“The Storm,” while a bit subdued compares to last’s week episode, sets up a lot of interesting plot points and new direction going into season 10.
