‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6, Episode 10 Recap: Rick Comes Home To Michonne In ‘The Next World’

The Walking Dead‘s midseason premiere featured the end of the Anderson family – but also a successful stand against the walkers in which the meeker citizens of Alexandria joined with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his gang to save the community. Now, it’s time to rebuild.

The Walking Dead S6, E10 Recap

Miraculously, Carl (Chandler Riggs) has survived the gunshot wound to the eye. Knowing that his son is going to make it, Rick is all business, and heads out on a much-needed supply run. Michonne (Danai Gurira) requests toothpaste; Denise (Merritt Wever), who is planning a surprise for Tara (Alanna Masterson), wants orange soda; and Eugene (Josh McDermitt) asks Rick and Daryl (Norman Reedus) to track down sorghum, an underrated grain.

Out on the road, Rick and Daryl struggle to find any sign of life or supplies. Eventually, they come across a sorghum barn, which happens to have a truck inside of it that contains an impressive amount of supplies. The two decide to drive the truck back to Alexandria, leaving their own car at the barn for now. On their way back, they try to flip over a vending machine at a gas station when they’re unceremoniously introduced to a guy named Paul, who claims his friends call him Jesus (Tom Payne).

Jesus tells Rick and Daryl that he’d been trying to get away from walkers when he crashed into them. His interest piqued, Rick asks Jesus how many walkers he’s killed. Daryl, however, doesn’t care to hear more from Jesus and sends him off. At the sound of gunshots, Daryl and Rick run behind the gas station, only to find firecrackers in a garbage can. It was a trick. Jesus has taken off with their supply-filled truck and vending machine.

Daryl and Rick try in vain to chase down the truck, but manage to get a hold of the vending machine, which Jesus had left down the road. After smashing the glass, Rick snatches up some snacks – and the orange sodas that Denise had requested. Determined to take the supplies back to Alexandria, Rick and Daryl do eventually catch up with Jesus and recoup the truck. Somehow, Jesus manages to get on top of the truck. The skirmish ends with the truck in the water, Jesus saving Daryl from a walker and Daryl saving Jesus.

Holding down the fort in Alexandria, Michonne catches a glimpse of Spencer (Austin Nichols) heading out into the woods, shovel in hand. She follows him, and takes down a walker he was poised to kill with his shovel. She wants to know what he’s doing. Spencer tells Michonne that it’s his habit to go off alone following his shifts, but Michonne thinks there’s a bigger answer he’s not sharing. She soon learns that he’s been searching for his mother Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh), who is now a walker. Michonne holds her as he stabs her in the head, then helps him dig her grave.

Enid (Katelyn Nacon), still a lonesome character, doesn’t jump in to help rebuild Alexandria, preferring to write in her notebook. Grateful for Enid’s part in saving both her and Glenn’s life, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) seeks her out. The expectant mother tries to get Enid to help, but also offers to be someone she can talk to. While Enid might not be ready to open up to Maggie, she’s taken to heading off on walks with Carl in the woods. Their quiet afternoon of reading in the woods, however, gets interrupted by Michonne and Spencer. Having thought they were in danger, Enid vows she’s done with their walks in the woods.

When Daryl and Rick return to Alexandria, they have Jesus in tow, and bring him to the infirmary so that Denise can look him over. After the eventful supply run, Rick heads back home and sits down on the couch, exhausted. When Michonne sits down next to him, he tells her about the guy they brought back with them and hands her mints, as he was unable to get that toothpaste she wanted. After a laugh, the two hold hands, kiss, and wind up having sex.

Jesus walks into the room where Rick and Michonne remain in bed, leading the two to grab their weapons. The stranger means them no harm. He merely wants to talk.
