‘The Walking Dead’ Course Offered At University Of California, Irvine

The Walking Dead, the hit zombie apocalypse series on AMC, is being adapted into an online course for the University of California, Irvine.

The course, officially titled “Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC’s The Walking Dead,” will be free for interested students and run for a total of eight weeks. After partnering with Instructure and UC Irvine, AMC’s show will be analyzed for students by UC Irvine faculty who specialize in public health, social sciences, physics and math.

“Fans of the show know that The Walking Dead is about more than zombies; it’s about survival, leadership and adapting to situations that are perilous and uncertain,” AMC’s VP of promotions and activation Theresa Beyer said in a statement. “There is clearly a growing appetite for engagement with The Walking Dead, and we hope this online course will drive a deep, sustained connection with the show during its upcoming fourth season and offer a legitimate educational experience that can be applied even more broadly.”

While the course is being offered through UC Irvine, fans of the show across the globe can get access to the free online course. Keeping fans and hopeful students of The Walking Dead who live abroad in mind, Canvas Network has implemented provisions that will keep spoilers away from those who might not have had access to a specific episode.

The first “Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC’s The Walking Dead” is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 14. It will run every Monday until the final class on Dec. 2.

The fourth season of The Walking Dead will air on Sunday, Oct. 13 on AMC at 9/8c.
