The Walking Dead “Too Far Gone” begins with the Governor (David Morrissey) showing his true colors to his new surrogate family, while explaining his plan to take over the prison community.
When Lilly (Audrey Marie Anderson) hears The Governor – who she has heretofore known as Brian, her new boyfriend who’s become a father figure to her daughter Meghan (Meryrick Murphy) – breaking down his overthrow of the peaceful community at the prison, she’s completely put off. While his hope is to be able to trade hostages Hershel (Scott Wilson) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) for the fenced-in property, he’s prepared to get his hands bloody if that doesn’t work. The Governor expects that the group he’s assembled will be just as willing and ready to kill for the shelter.
Inside the prison, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) finally tells Daryl (Norman Reedus) that he had Carol (Melissa McBride) banished, and the reason why he did it. Daryl, taking in the knowledge that his best pal killed a couple members of the community and was subsequently sent out into the wild, is visibly upset but controlled. He decides that both he and Rick need to find a way to tell Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman) that it was Carol who eliminated his girlfriend.
Before Daryl and Rick can give the news to Tyreese, The Governor is knocking on their door. He offers Rick the deal of turning over the prison in exchange for Hershel and Michonne’s lives. Rick, accessing his better self, urges The Governor to consider letting their two groups coexist in the large prison. The Governor isn’t having a compromise, and raises Michonne’s sword to Hershel’s neck and slices.
As the blood-letting begins, Meghan remains at the old camp and is preoccupying herself by digging in the mud. Before long, a walker buried in the ground reaches up and bites her. Meanwhile, the kids at the prison grab baby Judith and run towards the getaway bus. Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino) stops mid-sprint, determining that Carol would have wanted them to stay and fight.
With Meghan’s body in her arms, Lilly approaches the battle. She watches on as The Governor shoots Penny and then gets into a brawl with Rick. As the Governor looks close to choking out Rick, Michonne stabs the Govenor in the back. Lilly finishes her new boyfriend with a gunshot to the head.
Daryl heads off to The Governor’s tank, where he takes out Mitch. When Alisha points her gun at Tyreese, Lizzie shoots her first. The getaway bus, with Glenn in tow, ultimately leaves without the injured Bob (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). And though Rick and Carl (Chandler Riggs) find each other, neither of them knows where Judith is. With walkers now taking over the prison, their only choice is to walk away.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays on AMC at 9/8c.
