‘The Voice’ Season 9 Premiere Recap: Jordan Smith Shines Singing “Chandelier”

The popular singing competition, The Voice, is back, and the coaches were pleasantly surprised to find a number of remarkable singers during the first night of the blind auditions.

‘THE VOICE’ SEASON 9 PREMIERE RECAP

Season 9 of The Voice welcomes back Gwen Stefani as coach, along with Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams and Blake Shelton. Night one of the blind auditions proved to be most entertaining, and one singer, Jordan Smith, surprised everyone with his impressive rendition of Sia‘s “Chandelier.”

“That was the most trippiest turn-around, blind audition, freakiest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life,” Stefani said after turning around to see Smith singing.

There were many stellar performances over the course of the evening. Here’s who made it through, and who they chose as their coaches.

1. Jordan Smith, from Harlan, Kentucky, sang “Chandelier” by Sia. He chose Levine as his coach.

2. Mark Hood, 24, from Chicago, Ill., sang “Use Me” by Bill Withers. He chose Williams as his coach.

3. Barrett Baber, 35, from Fayetteville, Ark., sang “Angel Eyes” by The Jeff Healey Band. He chose Shelton as his coach.

4. Siahna Im, 15, from Auburn, Wash., sang “Fever” by Peggy Lee. She chose Williams as her coach.

5. Keith Semple, 33, from Chicago, Ill., sang “I’ll Be There For You” by Bon Jovi. He chose Levine as his coach.

6. Nadjah Nicole, 23, from New Castle, Del., sang “Tightrope” by Janelle Monae. She chose Shelton as her coach.

7. Kota Wade, 23, from Hollywood, sang “Bring it on Home to Me” by Sam Cooke. She chose Stefani as her coach.

8. Braiden Sunshine, 15, from Lyme, Conn., sang “The Mountains Win Again” by Blues Traveler. He chose Stefani as his coach.

The next episode of The Voice airs Sept. 22 at 8 pm ET.
