'The Voice' Season 13 Contestant Janice Freeman Dead At 33, Coach Miley Cyrus Pays Tribute
Janice Freeman, who competed on Season 13 of NBC’s The Voice, died Saturday at her home in Pasadena, California. The 33-year-old, who had previously suffered from lupus, meningitis and cervical cancer, died of a blood clot that had formed in her lungs. After her husband performed CPR, Freeman was declared dead on Saturday afternoon.

Freeman first wowed The Voice judges Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson with her rendition of Imagine Dragon’s “Radioactive” during her blind audition. Choosing team Miley, Freeman advanced to the next couple of rounds and finished 11th in the season. After her elimination, she and Cyrus kept in touch, with Cyrus even providing financial support for her medical and housing bills.
Both Cyrus and Hudson posted emotional tributes to the singer after learning of her death. “The voice of hers we got to hear and the bit of life we got to watch her live was a blessing and inspiration to us all,” Hudson wrote on her Instagram page. Cyrus, meanwhile, posted a lengthy tribute declaring Freeman the true winner of the season and thanking her for teaching her a number of life lessons throughout their friendship.
Freeman’s last performance was on February 22, for a non-profit gala in Kansas City. She is survived by her husband and daughter.
