‘THE VOICE’ RECAP: BLIND AUDITIONS OVER, BATTLE ROUND BEGINS

Celebrity judges, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell filled their remaining spots before moving onto the Battle Round.

The first artist up was Jared Harder, who sang “Merry Go ‘Round” by Kacey Musgraves. Shelton was the only coach to turn for the country singer, so Harder automatically joined his team. “I think you surprised us all when you hit that upper register,” Aguilera commented.

Next up was Moushumi who auditioned with her rendition of “Wicked Game” by Chris Issack. Shelton wished he had the ability to add the singer to his team and pushed the other judges to pick her. The three other judges pushed their buttons and she joined Team Pharrell.

Katie Basden from Nashville was next with her cover of “Midnight Rider” and snagged all three of the judges to turn their chairs. “Your voice is really powerful, and it needs the right vehicles and the right song choices,” Aguilera said. She joined Team Adam, completing his team.

Next to audition was Jonathan Hutcherson, who has overcome impaired hearing to pursue a life of music, sang “You & I” by One Direction. He snagged the last spot on Team Pharrell, completing his team.

Ayanna Jahneé sang “Skyfall,” next and wowed Aguilera with her vocal range. She secured the last spot on Team Christina. “I love theatrics, and I love drama…and you embodied that in your song,” Aguilera said.

First up for the Battle Round were Katie Basden and Ryan Quinn from Team Adam. Tori Kelly was in town and joined their rehearsals to offer her advice. The team picked “Maybe I’m Amazed” and killed their version, both putting their heart and soul into the performance. Levine went with Quinn and Shelton jumped in to steal Basden for his team.

The next battle pairing was Brittney Lawrence and Paxton Ingram from Team Blake. With Gwen Stefani stepping in to advise, she pushed Lawrence to connect with her emotions to the song before taking the stage. Pharrell cited Ingram’s runs during the cover, and Levine praised Lawrence’s tone. Shelton declared Ingram the winner after the debate.

Next was Team Christina’s Bryan Bautista and Malik Heard. The team were advised by the legendary Patti LaBelle to sing “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World.” It was the overall best performance of the night with the entire arena giving the two a standing ovation. Aguilera deemed Bautista as the winner and Heard was quickly stolen by Pharrell.
