'The Voice' Recap: Tessanne Chin, Holly Henry Turn Four Chairs

The Voice aired its second round of blind auditions Tuesday night, showing a range of vocalists, from indie voices to reggae and rap. As with the first night, the coaches – Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton – spent the two hours fighting tooth and nail for the singing hopefuls.

Jacquie Lee of New Jersey opened up the show, performing Amy Winehouse’s "Back To Black" in a surprisingly powerful performance for a 16-year-old. Both Aguilera and Shelton turned for her, but she went with Aguilera in the end. Next was Barry Black, who performed "What You Won’t Do For Love" turning both Levine and Shelton’s chairs. Intrigued by the strange noises he made with his mouth – instrumental sounds – the veterans teased each other until Black chose to join Team Adam.

Mike Unser performed "Dirty Little Secret" by The All-American Rejects next, but unfortunately didn’t get any chairs to turn for him.

Next came flower-child Destinee Quinn, a pop-country singer who sang "Cowboy Take Me Away" by the Dixie Chicks. Both Green and Aguilera turned their chairs, but Aguilera won out again.

Cole Vosbury auditioned with "Movin’ On Up," the theme from The Jeffersons. Only Green turned around, but Vosbury was happy to take him as a coach. Levine regretted not hitting his button, considering the guts he thought Vosbury had, performing that song as his audition.

Holly Henry, a 19-year-old from Oregon, was the first performer of the night to turn all four chairs. She sang Coldplay’s "The Scientist" in a breathy tone the intrigued and entranced the judges. Shelton, the coach she ultimately chose, hit his button after she had sung just five words.

The next slew of contestants – Sammy C., Morgan Mallory, ShayMari, and Seth Cook – performed well, but not well enough for the judges to choose them for their teams.

Austin Jenckes performed a raspy and heartfelt rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s "Simple Man." He got both Green and Shelton to turn their chairs, and picked Shelton in the end. E.G. Daily – perhaps best known as the voice of Tommy on Rugrats and as Dottie in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure – performed Faith Hill’s "Breathe" to the same results as Jenckes. And just like Jenckes, she chose Shelton over Green. Aguilera and Levine pushed for her to pick Green because of her unusual voiceover talents, but she felt Shelton had truly listened to her singing voice, not to her voiceover ability.

Jonny Gray was the second and last member to join Green’s team in the episode, singing The Killers’ "All These Things That I’ve Done."

Tessanne Chin closed out the night with P!nk’s "Try." Like Henry, she got all four chairs to turn for her. Chin decided that despite her experience – she has performed with the likes of Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle – she had more to learn, and Levine was the one to teach her.

The Voice’s blind auditions continue next Monday.
