‘The Voice’ Recap: Korin Bukowski And Summer Schappell Shine, Team Blake Steals Morgan Frazier

Over the course of 9 seasons of the hit talent show we’ve come to expect the ever-faithful ‘steal’ to swoop in and save one of our favorites from the knockout, and this week was no exception.

‘The Voice’ Recap: Korin Bukowski And Summer Schappell Shine

First to duke it out in battle were Gwen‘s, Korin Bukowski and Summer Schappell. Wildly different in style, Korin, awkward and shy, Summer, vivacious and confident, the pairing made for interesting viewing. Korin sang Kodaline’s “All I Want” beautifully, hitting some impressive high notes, but looked a little stiff glued to the mic stand. Summer, on the other hand, couldn’t keep from moving around and strutted and stomped across the stage, giving her all to Little Big Town’s “Little White Church.” Feeling she could do more with Korin, however, Gwen left Summer in the cold.

Team Adam‘s, Keith Semple and Dustin Christensen, went head to head with Semple coming out the victor. Special advisor Rihanna had some solid advice for the guys, telling Keith to loosen his jaw to improve his tone and Dustin to take his vibrato down a notch, but neither performer really seemed to take it on board. Keith’s cover of “I Want To Know What Love Is”,  didn’t exactly scream ‘season 9 winner’ but it was good enough to defeat Justin, who had some pitch issues on his rendition of “Free.”

Pharrell‘s team was next but any dramatic tension we might have felt was lessened by the fact that The Voice constantly reminds us that someone is going to be stolen. Darius Scott, singing “On Broadway” defeated Morgan Frazier‘s “Even if it Breaks Your Heart.” Both were confident performances but one too many flat notes left Morgan in danger — well at least until she was all too predictably stolen back on to Blake’s team.

Solid viewing with some good performances but there were no standouts from the night and it would definitely do the show a favor to keep use of the steal to a minimum.
