‘The Voice’ Recap: Josh Logan, Jonny Gray Eliminated; Kat Robichaud Saved By Fans

The Voice whittled its contestants down from 12 to 10 last night, eliminating Josh Logan from Team Christina Aguilera and Jonny Gray from Team Cee Lo Green. Kat Robichaud from was saved literally at the last minute thanks to the show’s new tool, the Twitter ‘#InstantSave.’

Before any results were read, however, Sarah Bareilles performed a bouncy and piano heavy rendition of her single “Strong," the song that Katy Perry’s “Roar” sounds an awful lot like. She was joined on stage by the women of The VoiceCaroline Pennell and Robichaud of Team Cee Lo, Tessanne Chin of Team Adam Levine and Jacquie Lee of Team Christina — in a sweet harmony.

Next the show aired behind-the-scenes confessionals where some of the contestants and coaches shared secrets America doesn't know about them. Austin Jenckes, for one, was on a unicycling team for three years. Aguilera said that she has four dogs named Mini, Stinky, Chewy and Nugget. She announced that Mini would be her dog equivalent and the other three represent the other coaches. James Wolpert revealed that he can juggle as well as do a killer Kermit impression and Green showed off his odd collection of pets. Oh, and Levine introduced his adorable new puppy, Charlie. He pulled the pup on camera and posed.

Finally the first saves of the night were announced. Pennell and Matthew Schuler took the top two spots. Schuler’s cover of “Hallelujah” reached the second spot on the iTunes top 10 which means his votes were multiplied by five. His was the only single from last night to reach the top 10, making it no surprise that he was one of the top saves.

Team Cee Lo took to the stage following the first two saves. Green, Robichaud, Gray and Pennell, performed “Roam” by the B-52s.

Host Carson Daly then announced that fan favorites Jenckes and Chin were also safe and moving on to the next round.

Following those two saves came another performance. The men in the competition – Logan, Gray, Schuler, Will Champlin, Wolpert, Jenckes, Ray Boudreaux and Cole Vosbury – performed “We’re An American Band” by Grand Funk Railroad. Considering the varied sounds their voices carry, their harmonies melded surprisingly well.

After the performance Daly announced that Lee, Vosbury and Champlin were also saved by the fan votes and guaranteed spots in the top 10. This is the first round of performances since the blind auditions that Champlin didn’t need a coach save to stay. Surely a relief.

With the bottom five waiting Team Adam came together to perform “A Hard Days Night” by The Beatles, instruments and all. Levine was on the drums, Wolpert took on guitar, Champlin played the keyboard and Chin simply took the mic in a fun performance.

Daly announced next that Wolpert and Boudreaux were the final guaranteed two safe contestants. That left Gray, Logan and Robichaud in the bottom three. The host instructed the fans to tweet-save their favorite in the next five minutes by writing their favorite contestant's first name in a tweet with the hashtag ‘#InstantSave.’ Going just beyond 10:00 Robichaud was announced as the saved contestant, sending Gray and Logan home. Only Blake Shelton and Levine's teams are currently still intact.

The next round of The Voice performances airs Monday at 8:00 p.m. on NBC.
