The Voice Blind Auditions continued with coaches Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani rounding out powerful teams, and Blake Shelton and Adam Levine stepping up their competition.

Blind Auditions Part 2

Danica Shirey, 25, an R&B soul singer, auditioned with Jessie J’s “Big White Room,” nailed the first riff and got Adam to press his button. Gwen and Pharrell followed, giving Danica a standing ovation. Adam tried to win Danica over with his charm, but Pharrell ended up winning Danica over with his sweet, nice-guy routine. “With Gwen, you’ll get female report, with Adam you’ll get incredible technique. I’m just asking you to be on my team, will you please be on my team?” Pharrell told her. Blake threw his weight behind Pharrell, and Danica listened. Danica: Team Pharrell.

Up next, Joe Kirk, 17, got the first four-chair turnaround of the night with his rendition of “Lego House.” Each coach campaigned hard, and Blake even brought out props, putting on a huge hat to poke fun at Pharrell’s infamous headwear, but Adam won in the end. Joe: Team Adam

Menlik Zergabachew, 19, a reggae singer, sailed onto Team Gwen with “Santeria.” Blake turned around almost immediately, and Gwen didn’t hit her button until the end, despite Pharrell telling her she was the coach for Menlik. Adam immediately told Blake he had “no chance” of getting Menlik on his team, and he was right. Gwen won Menlik over, telling him, “Obviously, we’re already in a band together.”

Reagan James, 15, sang “Give Me Love,” and her rasp immediately won over Blake and Gwen. As soon as Reagan was done, Gwen got up from her chair to beg Reagan to join her team, and Reagan stood up for Gwen when Blake said Gwen had never won The Voice before – this is her first time coaching on the show. Reagan went with Team Blake, but, should she lose out in the Battle Rounds, it wouldn’t be surprising if Team Pharrell scooped her up. When Reagan told Pharrell that she wanted to sing R&B, he hung his head in shame: “The first chance I get, you are stolen,” Pharrell told her.

Taylor Phelan, a young father, was up next, singing “Sweater Weather” with his guitar. Adam turned around early in the performance, and Taylor P. eventually got all the coaches to push their buttons, inspiring a spirited war. Blake and Adam both showered him with praise, but Pharrell won him over, calling him “melodically accurate.” Taylor P.: Team Pharrell.

After a few no-chair-turns auditions, Sugar Joans got the coache’s attention with her performance of “Chain of Fools.” Sugar’s decision to tackle an Aretha Franklin classic put the judges a bit on edge, but both Blake and Gwen turned their chairs at the very last moment. After hearing her name, Pharrell kicked himself for not pressing his button, and he praised Sugar, saying, “You vomit, and it’s in key.” In a surprising move, Sugar went with Team Gwen.

Country artist Taylor Brashears was up next with “You Ain’t Woman Enough.” Taylor B. got through the bulk of her performance without convincing a coach to press their button, but by the end, she had Pharrell, Blake and Adam all vying for her. Pharrell promised her that he would learn everything about Country music if she joined his team, and complimented her “swagger.” Taylor went with her country roots, and chose Team Blake.

Finally, Maiya Sykes gave what was arguably the best performance of the night, putting a slight glam spin on Sam Smith’s ballad “Stay With Me.” The Yale graduate got all four coaches to turn around in seconds. “I think you can win the show,” Blake told her. Gwen tried to appeal to her by saying she could help Maiya find her look, because she doesn’t need any help with her voice. But, Pharrell appealed to her inner star, telling her, “I am so interested in who you are and that’s the story I want to amplify…you’re your own brand.” Maiya went to Team Pharrell.
