Gwen Stefani was the only coach left with a steal on Tuesday night’s The Voice final battle rounds, using it to snatch up Team Adam's Beth Spangler.
Pharrell Williams paired Brittany Butler and Ricky Manning with a jazzy take on “On Broadway,” and, while they did put a jazz spin on the song, neither Brittany nor Ricky were particularly at ease with the song. In rehearsals, Pharrell advised both Brittany and Ricky to try to find a way to be themselves with the song. “You’re, like, trying out for the X-men. There’s no reason to hold back,” Pharrell said.
Gwen loved both Brittany and Ricky, commending them for their stage presence, but Adam Levine gave the battle to Ricky because of his improvement from the blind auditions. Pharrell was torn, but in the end he declared Ricky the winner. Winner: Ricky
Blake Shelton, surprisingly, gave high school students Kensington Moore and Reagan James Lorde’s “Team” to battle onstage. Blake said that he chose the song for them because they are both unique, like Lorde. Unfortunately, Kensington got sick – with Kidney Stones – and was forced to miss their rehearsal, giving Kensington the opportunity to sing with The Band Perry’s Kimberly. Luckily, Kensington was able to rally the next day and made it to rehearsal with Reagan.
Gwen gushed over Reagan, saying that both she and Pharrell were angry they didn’t get her during the blind auditions, and Adam admitted that, though she had some problems, Reagan performed as if she had been doing it forever. Blake agreed, and Reagan won the battle. Winner: Reagan
Montage battle: Blake chose Allison Bray over Fernanda Bosch, and Gwen picked Anita Antoinette over Mayra Alvarez and Bryana Salaz over Gianna Salvato.
Team Blake Winner: Allison. Team Gwen Winners: Anita Antoinette, Bryana Salaz.
Beth Spangler and Mia Pfirrman were forced to battle with Voice coach Christina Aguilera’s “I Turn to You,” which is a tough ballade, and both Beth and Mia struggled to match Christina’s vocals. “Less is definitely more here,” Adam told them. Beth and Mia both wanted to stretch their vocal muscles, but they don’t have the control that Christina has, and it made rehearsals a bit messy.
Blake called both Beth and Mia two divas onstage, but he saw more potential in Mia. Gwen, however, complimented Beth on her ability to constantly surprise her, though she, too, declared Mia the winner of the battle. After a tough deliberation, Adam gave the win to Mia. When Carson Daly announced that Beth was available to steal, Pharrell told her that, if he had a steal to give, he would save her from being sent home. Beth was hugging the coaches goodbye when Gwen decided to push her button, using her final steal for Beth. Winner: Mia. Beth: Team Gwen
