The Top 8 became six on The Voice last night in an evening filled with fun performances from contestants, coaches and guests Ellie Goulding and Big Gipp.
Goulding opened the show with an electric performance of “Burn.” Will Champlin, Matthew Schuler and James Wolpert joined Goulding on stage to back her faint, breathy voice.
The Voice then aired a confessional filled with ridiculous conspiracy theories, including one that Coach Cee Lo Green is an alien, and hilarious impressions of contestants and coaches.
The eight contestants performed together twice during the hour-long eliminations. Their first performance, sung with the Starbucks Chorus, was a soulful “Will The Circle Be Unbroken.”
Between the group performances Green reunited with Big Gipp of Goodie Mob and performed “Amy” in an extravagant performance.
The contestants' second performance was a mash-up of OneRepublic’s “Apologize” and “All The Right Moves." The contestants had a plainly fun time on stage.
The Voice host Carson Daly announced the five contestants with the highest number of votes who were safe from elimination. Champlin from Team Adam Levine was the first save and the only contestant whose performance reached the iTunes top 10.
Cole Vosbury of Team Blake Shelton and Jacquie Lee of Team Christina Aguilera were the next two contestants moving on to the Top 6.
Tessanne Chin and Wolpert from Team Adam were the final contestants announced safe, leaving Levine’s team unscathed again. Nobody from Levine's team has been eliminated since the live show playoffs three weeks ago.
In a shocking twist, usual front-runner Schuler joined Caroline Pennell and Ray Boudreaux in the bottom three. During the instant save, Twitter fans voted to keep Schuler from going home and eliminated Green's final contestant. Check out the tense finale minute below:
