‘The View’ Host Sunny Hostin Slams Company Suing Her Husband For Fraud, Calling It A ‘Smear Campaign’

The View co-host Sunny Hostin is standing up for her husband, Dr. Emmanuel Hostin after he was named as a defendant in an insurance fraud lawsuit. 

Dr. Hostin, who owns an orthopedic and sports medicine clinic in New York, was one of 180 defendants named in American Transit’s suit – an insurance company primarily representing ride-share drivers. 

The surgeon and his practice have been accused of receiving “kickbacks by performing surgery and… billing a company that insured taxi companies and Uber and Lyft drivers.”

In a statement, The View co-host jumped to her husband’s defense, claiming that the company only took legal action as a “desperate attempt to avoid paying for medical and surgical procedures for people it insured who were in pain.”

“This company has a history of filing frivolous claims, has been investigated by New York State and has been sued by Uber Technologies,” Sunny said in her statement. “However, in an attempt to poison the well of public opinion because it does not have a valid case against my husband, American Transit instead used my celebrity status to start a disgusting media smear campaign against my husband, which included me and our children.”

The suit—filed in December—accuses Dr. Hostin and his practice of knowingly providing “fraudulent medical and other healthcare services, including arthroscopic surgeries. … [American Transit] was billed in exchange for kickbacks and/or other compensation which were disguised as dividends or other cash distributions.”

The 698-page complaint further alleges that Emmanuel took advantage of the law, which is making insurance fraud a rising issue in New York State. 

Dr. Hostin’s attorney, Daniel Thwaites, said in a statement that his client denies “each and every allegation,” calling the suit a “blanket, scattershot, meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier.”
