‘The View’ Host Sunny Hostin Says Trump Is A ‘DEI’ Hire – ‘Didn’t Earn It’

On Tuesday, Sunny Hostin, a former federal prosecutor for the Department of Justice and current co-host of The View, labeled President Donald Trump a “DEI” hire.

While “DEI”usually refers to the acronym “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,” in Trump’s case, Hostin said it stands for “Didn’t Earn It.”

Trump revoked the DEI programs in the federal government just hours after being inaugurated on Monday. In reference to Trump’s vow to make Martin Luther King Jr.’s “dream a reality,” Hostin remarked, “The irony of it. Martin Luther King Jr. not only wanted racial equality, he wanted economic equality, and that is something that people tend to miss.”

Hostin emphasized her point with another famous quote from King, “It’s alright to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel just to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps.”

She further asserted that Trump has been “given everything that he has,” adding, “You’re talking about a man who didn’t become the president of the United States because of merit. He had no political experience whatsoever, he had no business experience. He is, if anything, a DEI hire…a ‘Didn’t-Earn-It’ hire.”

In the 2024 campaign, many Republicans complained that DEI programs are discriminatory, leading Trump to vow to abolish them. However, many studies have shown that DEI programs are crucial to fostering a work environment where individuals feel respected and valued for their diverse perspectives. DEI programs have been shown to positively affect customer experience and satisfaction, allowing organizations to participate in a broader community.

In the days after Trump’s inauguration, major companies such as McDonald’s and Walmart have rolled back their DEI promises.

Hostin has been in the news lately after her husband, Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, was accused of fraud in a lawsuit. The View host said her husband was a victim of “a smear campaign.”
