After 13 years of waiting, The Office fans are finally at peace when it comes to the identity of character Jan Levinson’s sperm donor. Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey revealed his identity on their latest episode of their podcast, Office Ladies.
They explained that the sperm donor is none of then tennis star Andy Roddick. They said that detail was in the original script, but must not have made it past the editing room.
The actresses had the original script with them during the podcast and were able to read exactly what happened.
“Jan looks to Michael like she’s expecting him to be very impressed,” Kinsey, who played Angela Martin on the show, said. “And Michael says, ‘The tennis player?’ And Jan says, ‘Well, it’s a little more than that. He’s the sixth-ranked player in the world and he’s won four grand slams.’ And Michael says, ‘That’s a lot of grand slams, I guess.’ And Jan says, ‘And he’s a humanitarian, something with orphans.’ And Michael is quiet and Jan goes, ‘Michael?’ And Michael says, ‘Can I just sit here for a minute without more things coming into my head?'”
Fischer, who played Pam Beesly on the show, said Roddick was chosen because he was a good friend of actor Rainn Wilson and would visit the set often.
“I have to imagine that the reason they wrote it as being Andy Roddick’s sperm was a little bit of a nod to Andy, who has an amazing sense of humor,” Fischer said. “I am so sad for his sake that this did not stay in the episode.”
Among the internet buzz after the revelation, Roddick’s wife, Brooklyn Decker, shared her opinion of the reveal.
“Jan, sweetie, we need to talk,” Decker joked on Instagram.
