‘The Mummy’ Franchise Reboot May Feature Female Lead
Universal Pictures plans to reboot The Mummy franchise as part of its planned monsters universe that it is developing in conjunction of Marvel’s superhero franchise. This will start with a reboot of The Mummy film with a new plotline and cast.
‘The Mummy’ To Have Possible Female Role In Reboot
There is one aspect of the film that has yet to be determined: the lead villain’s gender. Director Alex Kurtzman and writer Jon Spaihts have two unique scripts for both a male and female protagonist. Casting will begin in the next couple of months until a match to the scripts has been found and then will be narrowed down based by gender. The film is slated for release on March 24, 2017.
The reboot follows the original The Mummy trilogy that was written and directed by Stephen Sommers. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz starred in all three movies as married couple Rick and Evelyn O’Connell with Arnold Vosloo starring as Imhotep.
