‘The Movie Critic’ Likely To Be Quentin Tarantino’s Final Film

Quentin Tarantino is best known for his writing and directing skills for movies like Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), Jackie Brown (1997), Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003), Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), Grindhouse: Death Proof (2007), Inglourious Basterds (2009), Django Unchained (2012), The Hateful Eight (2015) and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).

And Tarantino is ready to add one last film to the list, titled The Movie Critic.

IN MEMORIAM 2022: 100 GREAT CELEBRITIES WHO DIED IN 2022

Previously, Tarantino has said that he wants to direct ten films or retire at 60 years old. If you count Kill Bill 1 & 2 as one film, as Tarantino does, then he is at nine films, and he is still one month away from turning 60, so he’s pushing his own deadlines.

How did he come up with these deadlines? During a 2012 interview with Playboy, he said, “I want to stop at a certain point. Directors don’t get better as they get older. Usually the worst films in their filmography are those last four at the end. I am all about my filmography, and one bad film f—s up three good ones. I don’t want that bad, out-of-touch comedy in my filmography, the movie that makes people think, ‘Oh man, he still thinks it’s 20 years ago.’ When directors get out-of-date, it’s not pretty.”

Tarantino revealed that The Movie Critic will take place in the late 1970s Los Angeles with a female main character. This has led fans to speculate that the film will follow the story of Pauline Kael, one of the most well-known and influential movie critics in history. During the 70s, Kael worked as a consultant for Paramount and was known for her short temper with editors and filmmakers.

A studio to shoot the film with has not been chosen yet, but given Tarantino’s history with Sony for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, they seem to be a very likely choice.
