‘The Meredith Vieira Show’ Canceled After Two Seasons On The Air

The Meredith Vieira Show will come to an end following its current second season on NBC.

‘Meredith Viera Show’ Canceled

Vieira confirmed the cancelation of her daytime talkshow on Monday in a statement.

“I am so sorry to see our show come to an end after this season, but I am also incredibly proud of the work our staff has done and forever grateful to our supportive viewers,” Vieira said in the statement to Deadline. “We promise to spend our final weeks producing the best broadcast we know how. And have a blast doing so!”

The Meredith Vieira Show, distributed by NBC Universal Domestic Television Group, premiered in 2014 to respectable ratings, earning it an early promise of a second season. However, the ratings began to fall as its freshman season wore on, giving the network cause for concern for the show’s sophomore season. Despite shaking up the format, including giving Vieira a panel that included NSYNC’s Lance Bass, The Meredith Vieira Show failed to get a foothold in the ratings.

Though NBC has axed future seasons of the show, it will keep fresh episodes of the talk show coming through May.

Prior to landing her own daytime talk show, Vieira enjoyed a number of enviable gigs in broadcast. She was the original moderator of The View, the original host of the U.S. syndicated version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and was a Today show co-host.

After Vieira wraps up her run on her talk show, she’ll have a short break over the summer before heading to Rio de Janeiro in August to cover the Summer Olympics.
