‘The Leftovers’ Season 2 Premiere Recap: The Garvey Clan Moves To Jarden

The Leftovers follows the story of a town after world loses two percent of it’s population. Mapleton, Texas, must rebuild it’s life after losing 100 people. The disappearances are quite mysterious and the world is in disarray. The show, based on the Tom Perottas book of the same name, is a painful study in the nature of human grief. Created by Damon Lindelof, The Leftovers captured the attention of HBO viewers in the first season.

‘The Leftovers’ Season 2 Premiere

The season 2 premiere opens with a woman and her child nearly naked in the wilderness. She’s foraging for eggs and beating snakes to death with whatever is laying nearby. she doesn’t survive the next few minutes. People are turning to mysterious palm readers. John Murphy (Kevin Carroll) Lives in Jarden, Texas with his family when they recieve new neighbors lead by Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux). Jarden is the only known to have zero reported disappearances, and as a result s assaulted by people migrating.

So far, all we know is that the people of Jarden are facing threats from one another, and occasionally naked women run through the forest for whatever reason. And let’s not forget the goat that is taken into the town diner, slaughtered and immediately removed. Jarden may be rename MIracle, but it’s pretty strange itself.

While season 1 focused on Kevin Garvey and the inhabitants of Mapleton, the season 2 premiere focused on the Murphy family in Jarden. John is an interesting character for being so forthcoming with Kevin about spending time in jail for attempted murder. Attempted because he “didn’t try hard enough.” Jarden may have been spared from whatever rapture occurred worldwide, but these people are insane.
