‘The Last of Us’ Star Melanie Lynskey Responds To Adrianne Curry’s Body-Shaming Comments

America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry responded to a photo of actor Melanie Lynskey on Twitter, criticizing her appearance as unfitting for the post-apocalyptic TV series, The Last of Us.

In a deleted tweet, she wrote, “her body says life of luxury… not post apocolyptic [sic] warlord.” She later added, “where is [Terminator star] Linda Hamilton when you need her?”

Lynskey fired back, screenshotting the message before Curry deleted her tweet. She pointed out that the gown she wore was for an InStyle magazine cover shoot, something that looks completely different from her character on the show.

On Thursday, Curry deleted her Twitter account. She took to Facebook to explain her decision, claiming that her comments weren’t a personal attack on Lynskey and that the actor incited a bullying campaign against her with her tweet.

Curry continued to write that she would stay off Twitter until Lynskey’s fans stop berating her, saying that she will now keep her “NERD movie/show criticism” to herself.

In a later Twitter thread, Lynskey described why her role in the show is important to her.

She went on to say that people would listen to the person who does the planning and is decisive, not the one who is the coolest or the toughest.

Lynskey also shared that women in leadership positions are always scrutinized to an impossible level. She found her role as Kathleen refreshing because it subverted expectations.

Lynskey wanted her to be smart but also feminine and soft-voiced – qualities often considered weak.

The actor continued, saying that she was grateful to series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for making the character and for the love and support she received from fans.
