The Killers Apologize After Being Booed For Inviting A Russian Fan On Stage In Georgia
American rock band The Killers issued an apology after controversial statements made during a concert in the Republic of Georgia.
The band is on a European tour that will last through early September. During their concert in Georgia, The Killers invited a Russian fan to come on stage and play drums, which the band considers a long-standing tradition.
During the bit, lead singer Brandon Flowers appeared to have called Georgians and Russians “brothers and sisters,” prompting a wave of boos and other crude remarks from the crowd though the rest of the show, with some getting up and leaving early.
The hostile response towards Flowers’ comments is largely due to the recent history between Russia and Georgia, particularly the Russo-Georgian war in 2008. Most of the Georgian population also supports Ukraine during the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war.
The band responded to the incident on their official X account, stating that they were following a tradition of bringing fans onstage during their shows. The statement also claimed that Flowers’ “brothers and sisters” comment was misconstrued and referred to the relationship between the band and the audience instead of Russians and Georgians.
