The Hunger Games: Catching Fire teaser trailer was introduced by star Liam Hemsworth at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night, building suspense for the dark times ahead in the much-anticipated sequel.

Upon their return from their Hunger Games victory, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) are regarded as celebrities and heroes of the people. While both Katniss and Peeta may initially be optimistic about the positive role they can play among the districts, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) has a different plan in store.

Snow and Plutarch Heavensbee are shown in the trailer colluding about how best to get rid of Katniss. Her power is seen as a threat to the stability of the capital and the governing of the poverty-stricken districts. "She has become a beacon of hope for them," the totalitarian President Snow says of Katniss. "She has to be eliminated."

"I think she should die but in the right way, at the right time," replies Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), the new Head Gamemaker in charge of the Hunger Games. "Katniss Everdeen is a symbol. You don't have to destroy her, just her image. Show her that she is one of us now. Let them rally behind that. They're going to hate her so much they might just kill her for you."

In the trailer, Katniss is also seen facing a gun aimed at her by a Peacekeeper, and having a heartfelt discussion with her sister Prim, who she had saved from the games in the series' first installment.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is set to premiere in theaters on Nov. 22, 2013.
