Hobbit
Tolkien fans are soon to be rejoicing with the theatrical release of extended editions of all three films from The Hobbit trilogy. The extensions will add 13 to 25 minutes to each film which will be released in 500 theaters across the country, with An Unexpected Journey being released Oct. 5, The Desolation of Smaug Oct. 7 andThe Battle of the Five Armies on Oct. 13.
While many will be wondering how and why one moderately long book became three very long movies, other fans of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series will welcome the three films back to the screen. The rest may forego seeing them altogether with the shortest of The Hobbit series having a run time of about 144 minutes.
The extended cuts are already available on DVD and BluRay, and carry an R rating for a little extra violence. Along with the violence, we will also get more of the Great Goblin song which was cut short for the purpose of moving the story along. There will also be more disrespect of Elves from the Dwarves, and there will be more scenes of The Shire.
