‘The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society’ Premieres In The UK

The world premiere of The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society took place in London on Monday night at the Cuzon Mayfair Theater.

The film is based off of the 2008 New York Times Best Selling novel of the same name by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It is a historical drama that follows the story a London-based writer Juliet Ashton in 1964, who begins exchanging letters with residents on the island of Guernsey, which was occupied by Germany during World War II. After feeling compelled to visit the island, she starts to get a better understanding of what it was like living on the island during the war.

The movie features a star-studded cast, Lily James, who has starred in Baby Driver and Downtown Abbey, will play the main role of Juliet. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society also features Michiel Huisman, Glen Powell, Jessica Brown Findlay, Katherine Parkinson, Matthew Goode, Tom Courtenay and Penelope Wilton.

“It will push a few tear buttons. It’s kind of heartwarming in that way,” James says in an interview.

It is directed by Mike Newell, who directed films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral and Mona Lisa Smile, and written by Don Roos and Tom Bezucha.

“These were characters who deserved their stories to being told and their stories hadn’t been told,” Newell said.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is set to premiere on April 20.
