The Grammys Postponed Due To COVID-19

The 2021 Grammy Awards have been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In a joint statement from the Recording Academy and CBS, the network that produces the show, it was announced that the music awards show will now take place on March 14, 2021.

The event was originally set to take place on Sunday, January 31, with The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah as host. Producers stated that California’s high COVID-19 numbers and new guidelines and restrictions from the state led them to this decision.

“The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do… Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.”

Artists like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Post Malone all were among the top artist to earn nominations at this year’s Grammy Awards.

“We want to thank all of the talented artists, the staff, our vendors and especially this year’s nominees for their understanding, patience and willingness to work with us as we navigate these unprecedented times,” the statement concluded.

While the Grammys usually mark the beginning of the Hollywood awards season, the Golden Globes are now set to be the start. If they move forward with their plans, they will take place on February 28, 2021.
