‘The Color Purple’ Stars Unite On Stage At The NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles

The Color Purple team accepted the Outstanding Motion Picture award for their film at the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The stars on stage to accept the award were Fantasia Barrino, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, Halle Bailey, Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, Rebecca Walker and Aba Arthur.

Barrino stunned in a white dress with black gloves, Pearl Mpasi went with pink, Bailey celebrated St. Patrick’s Day Eve wearing green, Brooks held the award in a black gown and Henson was all gammed up in yellow. Walker wore sparkles with a lavender coat.

The Color Purple is a film based on the book by Alice Walker. Rebecca Walker is her daughter.

The story focuses on Celie, a black woman from the Jim Crow South. The book was turned into a movie produced by Steven Spielberg in 1985. Then it was made into a Tony Award-winning musical. Now, Oprah Winfrey’s film brings the musical version.
