The Cars’ Frontman Ric Ocasek Dies In Manhattan Home At 75

Ric Ocasek, 75, was found dead yesterday in his Manhattan home. He was found unconscious and unresponsive in bed at 4 p.m. and the cause of death is still unclear.

Ocasek garnered much of his success as the lead singer of rock band The Cars and as the producer of albums for artists, such as Bad Brains, Weezer, No Doubt, Bad Religion and Nada Surf. The rockstar co-founded his band in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1976, and it soon rose to fame with hit songs like “Just What I Needed,” “Good Times Roll” and “Drive.”

On the set of the “Drive” music video Ocasek met his former wife, model and actress Paulina Porizkova, whom he was married to for 28 years before their divorce in May 2018.

In 2018, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This was only one of its many accomplishments. At the peak of its existence, The Cars watched 13 of their singles reach Billboard’s Top 40 and four of their studio albums reach Billboard’s Top 10.
