While most of the buzz surrounding Fifty Shades of Grey has lately concerned the identities of the stars who will be lucky enough to play Christian and Anastasia, the latest update comes in the form of Terra Nova co-creator Kelly Marcel, who has been announced as the screenwriter for the film adaptation of the erotic "mommy porn" E. L. James novel that's done for bondage what Lady Chatterley's Lover did for adultery.

The rights to the film version of Fifty Shades of Grey and its two sequels, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, were purchased by Universal Pictures and Focus Features in March.

“Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks,” said co-producer Michael De Luca.

“We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelly's engagement with the characters and world E. L. James has created and we knew she was the right person to augment our Fifty Shades family,” added De Luca's partner on the production of Fifty Shades of Grey, Dana Brunetti.

While American Psycho and Less than Zero author Bret Easton Ellis was very vocal about wanting to pen the screenplay for Fifty Shades of Grey, the studios reportedly wanted a female author. Other screenwriters considered included The Killing writer Veena Sud, Game Of Thrones writer Vanessa Taylor and Weeds creator Jenji Kohan.

Marcel's latest project is quite a departure from her upcoming naughty novel. She recently penned Saving Mr. Banks, a behind-the-scenes look at how the Disney film Mary Poppins came to be, starring Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and also featuring Colin Farrell, Emma Thompson, Jason Schwartzman, Rachel Griffiths, B. J. Novak, Paul Giamatti.

While Marcel's television resume is still relatively short and sweet, she started her career in musical theatre, writing for the UK version of Debbie Does Dallas, the Musical.
