Teens Charged With Throwing Rock That Caused Fatal Car Crash, Took Photos As Momento

Three Colorado teenagers have been charged with throwing rocks through the windshield of a 20-year-old driver, leading to her death.

According to the arrest records, the three 18-year-old teenagers – Joseph Koeing, Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik and Zachary Kwak – had a rock-throwing spree, which led to the death of 20-year-old Alexa Bartell. After Bartell’s crash, they ran off but later returned to the scene and took a photo as a “momento.”

Kwak allegedly threw a massive stone through the windshield of Bartell’s car. The car crashed in a field, and she died at the scene.

Kwak reportedly told them, “We have to go back and see that,” according to one of the arrested affidavits.

He returned and took a photo of the car as a “momento.”

Kwak told investigators that on their way back home, Koenig and Karol-Chik spoke about how they were all blood brothers now with a bond of secrecy.

Koenig and Kwat later held a meeting in order to “get their stories straight.”

The three appeared in court last week and were all charged with first-degree murder and an additional charge that will be filed later.

Bartell was found dead by her friend, who was talking to her on the phone when the rock hit her. The friend located her after she noticed Bartell wasn’t responding.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s office claimed that the crash didn’t kill Bartell – the rock was responsible.
