Ted Cruz
Ted Cruz decided to suspend his presidential campaign Tuesday night, and like many of his public appearances as of late, it was not without incident. Before leaving the stage, Cruz elbowed his wife Heidi Cruz in the head – twice.
After losing the GOP primary contest in Indiana to Donald Trump, Cruz pulled the plug on his rival campaign, realizing that he no longer had a path to block the real estate mogul’s inevitable nomination. Upon concluding his speech, Cruz went in for a hug with his father, Raphael Cruz. When he tried to bring Heidi in for a group hug, he accidentally elbowed her hard in the face. Incidentally, the Texas senator also punched Heidi square on the nose while going in for the hug with his dad.
Before the accidental mauling, Cruz told his supporters that with his loss in must-win Indiana, it no longer made sense for him to remain in the race. “Tonight, I’m sorry to say, it appears that path [to the nomination] has been foreclosed,” he said. “Together we left it all on the field in Indiana. We gave it all we got. But the voters chose another path.”
Cruz added, “Hear me now. I am not suspending our fight for liberty. I am not suspending our fight to defend the Constitution.”
It’s expected that Cruz, who is only 45 years old, will launch a second bid for the White House in 2020 or 2024.
