Taylor Swift Responds To Trump’s Tweet On Protests: ‘You Have The Nerve To Feign Moral Superiority’

Taylor Swift has responded to President Donald Trump’s tweet about the George Floyd protests.

Swift tagged Trump in her response and said, “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump”

Trump’s original message read, “….These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!”

The tweet was deemed to be in violation of Twitter’s rule about glorifying violence, however, it remains available for the public to read.

Swift has been vocal about political issues, especially those regarding the president, since October 2018 when Swift wrote a public letter to Tennessee’s Sen. Lamar Alexander. In this letter, she publicly supported a Democratic candidate for the midterm elections and advocated for the gay-rights Equality Act.

She said, “I personally reject the President’s stance that his administration, ‘supports equal treatment of all,’ but that the Equality Act, ‘in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights.’ No. One cannot take the position that one supports a community, while condemning it in the next breath as going against ‘conscience’ or ‘parental rights.’”

In 2016, Swift was called out for not publicly supporting a presidential candidate. Swift later revealed in the Netflix documentary Miss Americana that she did not speak up in fear of losing fans, especially after the backlash she received from her feud with Kim Kardashian West.
