Taylor Swift did not appreciate the jabs she received from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at January’s Golden Globes about her very public relationships. During the awards show, Fey and Poehler joked back and forth about whether or not Swift should pursue Michael J. Fox’s son, which later drew the ire of the pop queen.
“You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people," Swift told Vanity Fair in response to the joke. “Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’”
Swift felt that Fey and Poehler's digs skirted the line of being sexist.
“For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that’s taking something that potentially should be celebrated—a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way—that’s taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist.”
Poehler and Fey took the high road in their responses to Swift’s reaction.
“Aw, I feel bad if she was upset. I am a feminist, and she is a young and talented girl,” Poehler told THR. “That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff."
"If anyone was going to get mad at us, I thought it would be James Cameron,” Fey told Entertainment Tonight. “I did not see that one coming. It was a joke. It was a lighthearted joke.”
For the record, in the interview Swift maintained that she has actually only dated two people (Conor Kennedy and Harry Styles) since 2010, despite being linked to John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joe Jonas and Taylor Lautner.—Hal Sundt
