Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour began on Friday night in Glendale, Arizona. It was a three-hour show that spanned the music artist’s hits from every “era” in the singer’s 17-year discography.
The anticipation for opening night was so great that Glendale changed its name to Swift City for March 17-18.
Late last year, the high demand for tickets to the Eras Tour broke the distribution company Ticketmaster’s website. Swift addressed this, acknowledging that it took her 70,000 fans “a considerable amount of effort” to attend the opening concert.
Swift began the show with the Lover (2019) era, opening with “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” and performing “Cruel Summer” live for the very first time.
After singing songs from Evermore (2020), Swift asked the audience, “Is it just me or do we have a lot to catch up on?”, in reference to this tour being her first since 2018.
In total, Swift’s set list was over 40 songs and included moving set pieces, dancers and backup singers, costume changes, confetti and pyrotechnics.
The Eras Tour covered every part of her career, from her 2006 debut single “Tim McGraw” to songs from her 2022 Midnights album. It includes 51 more performance dates through August 2023.
