David Mueller, a former host at KYGO radio station, filed a lawsuit against Taylor Swift in U.S. District Court in Denver, in September claiming that one of the singer’s security team had wrongly accused him of grabbing her buttocks backstage at the Pepsi Center on June 2, 2013. The host, who denies any misconduct, was fired by KYGO two days after the incident after Swift reported it to his employers.
Mueller claims that one of his superiors is responsible for the assault but Swift remains steadfast in her claim. The singer’s legal team has filed a counterclaim against the former host, decrying Mueller’s claim of innocence as false.
“Mueller’s newfound claim that he is the ‘wrong guy’ and, therefore, his termination from KYGO was unjustified, is specious,” Swift’s attorney wrote in the counterclaim. “Ms. Swift knows exactly who committed the assault — it was Mueller.”
In court filings Swift’s attorneys wrote that the singer was “surprised, upset, offended, and alarmed” when, so she claims, at a backstage meet-and-greet Mueller deliberately pulled up her skirt.
Swift is seeking a jury trial to settle the dispute and has said, as reported in New York Daily, that any money she might receive involving the lawsuit will be donated to charitable organizations “dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard.”‘
