Taylor Swift has announced her sixth studio album, Reputation, set for release on Nov. 10.
She made the announcement in a series of Instagram posts on Wednesday. Her first single debuts tonight, Aug. 24. She posted three videos of a snake slithering, three days apart, before announcing the album and cover art.
Swift ended a 6-month hiatus from the limelight, during which time she went to court with the DJ that groped her at a meet-and-greet, and then tried to sue her because he lost his job over the incident. Swift came out ahead, winning a symbolic $1 in damages.
Reputation will be Swift’s first album in three years, coming after 2014’s 1989 that produced such hits as “Shake it Off,” “Blank Space,” and “Bad Blood.”
Many think Swift’s album and announcement choices are reflective of her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. The trio’s beef began when West referred to Swift in his hit “Famous,” where he rapped “I made that bitch famous,” after saying, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex.” Kardashian used the snake emoji on Twitter to describe Swift, which makes fans believe that Swift’s snake Instagram posts could symbolize that she won’t back down easily.
“Wait it’s legit National Snake Day?!?!?They have holidays for everybody, I mean everything these days! ?????????????????????????????????????,” Kardashian posted.
Others yet have pointed out that the font used in her album title is similar to the font that West uses on a lot of his merchandise from his Saint Pablo tour. Many on Twitter have pointed out that the font used is actually the same as the New York Times, but the similarity is there. Some have also noted that the way the text overlaps on the newspapers on Swift’s album resembles that of Kanye’s The Life of Pablo. More still looked to Swift’s outfit choice, of just a beige/gray sweater, and note that the shirt is very similar to a West or Kardashian style.
Regardless of any shade being thrown, fans are very excited about the new album, due out Nov. 10. Keep an eye out for the new single that drops tonight.
