Taylor Swift announced the title and release date of her upcoming album, 1989, on Monday, and the songstress also dropped the music video for her first single off the album, “Shake It Off.”
Swift, 24, appeared on a Yahoo livestream on Monday to announce the news and debut her new music video. 1989 – the year of Swift’s birth and the title of her upcoming album – is set for release on Oct. 27. 1989 will be Swift’s fifth studio release, and the pop-country darling has dubbed the album her “first documented, official pop album.”
While Swift has been straddling the line between pop and country for years, her new single “Shake It Off,” produced by Max Martin and Shellback marks her complete transition into the pop genre. “Shake It Off,” a feel-good pop anthem, is Swift’s response to all the haters – from those who judge her award-show dancing, to those who dismiss her due to her dating history. “People can say whatever they want about us, at any time," she said. "The only thing we can control is our reaction to that.”
During her livestream, Swift also unveiled the cover for her upcoming album – a polaroid photo of herself with “T.S. 1989” written on the bottom – and revealed that every physical copy of her album will come with a packet of 13 photos, the selection of which will differ among copies.
1989 is now available for pre-order from Swift’s official website and on iTunes.
