Taylor Lautner Says He’s Praying For John Mayer After Taylor Swift Announces Re-Release Of ‘Speak Now’

Earlier this month, Taylor Swift announced the re-release of her 2010 album Speak Now during her Eras Tour stop in Nashville. Her big news came just as she had performed “Sparks Fly,” which is the fifth single from the 2010 record.

Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is set to release on July 7 and will feature 22 songs, including six previously unreleased tracks. “It fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of Speak Now will be out July 7 (just in time for July 9th, iykyk 😆),” Swift wrote in an Instagram post announcing the re-release.

“I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness,” she wrote earlier this month. “I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing … and living to speak about it. With six extra songs I’ve sprung loose from the vault, I absolutely cannot wait to celebrate Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) with you on July 7th.”

While fans have been quick to express their enthusiasm for Swift’s upcoming album, her ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner highlighted that it may not be in everyone’s best interest.

While Lautner, who dated Swift for a few months in 2009 and is the subject of the breakup song “Back to December,” believes that he is safe from fan reactions he could not say the same for Swift’s other former flames.

“I think it’s a great album. Yeah, I feel safe. Praying for John,” Lautner told Today, referring to Swift’s tumultuous relationship with John Mayer, 45.

Swift and Mayer were first romantically linked in 2009, after collaborating on Mayer’s “Half of My Heart.” Swift later released “Dear John,” which led to speculation that their relationship had gone sour.

“Don’t you think nineteen is too young / To be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?” Swift sings in “Dear John,” seemingly referencing their 13-year age gap. Their relationship recently received further scrutiny after Swift released “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” on her 2022 album Midnights.

While Mayer is yet to comment on how he feels about the upcoming re-release, Swift has Lautner’s full support. His wife, Taylor Dome, has also expressed her excitement for the re-release, previously stating that Speak Now is one of the best albums of all time.
