R&B singer Tamar Braxton, who is currently a contestant on the ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, has been fighting pneumonia for the past couple weeks while competing on the show. Last night, she had to be rushed to the hospital and possibly had to miss the live taping of the show.
At first, Braxton and her dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy had to be judged on behalf of the dress rehearsal video they shot in order for the couple to not be disqualified from the competition. “You just saw a person that shouldn’t have been here, and was here because she felt bad for her partner, teacher, you know, that’s why I feel really bad, because it shouldn’t be like that,” he said to the judges after the tape was played. “It should be a fun journey. I’m not here to make her life hard. We want to celebrate her effort.” In honor of this, the judges final score was 22/30 for the couple.
In a surprising change of events, Braxton ended up showing up to the studio just in time for the group dance with Chmerkovskiy, Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess. They performed a Cirque du Soleil number from the Beatles’ Love and had scored a whopping 27/30 for her effort in being there even if she was dealing with a sickness. “It’s clear what drives people, right? And for her what drives her to be on the show isn’t the check, she got that, isn’t anything but her camaraderie with me and the relationship she built with me and to see her reciprocate everything I’ve done for her and gather herself and risk a lot of things, including health, to be here, that speaks volumes to the type of person she is,” he told E! Online.
