Talia Castellano, the terminally ill girl whom Ellen DeGeneres dubbed an honorary CoverGirl, lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday. She was 13.

Her passing was announced via a statement posted to her Facebook page. It read: "It is with a heavy heart that we share with all of you that Talia has earned her wings at 11:22am. Please lift her beautiful soul, her beautiful light to heaven and please send your love and prayers to her family during this most difficult time. God speed little one, may you be free from pain and suffering, may your soul feel the light and love that you brought to so many of us on this Earth during the short time you were here with us. We will miss you more than you will ever know baby girl."

Castellano had caught DeGeneres’ attention last year when her bubbly makeup tutorial videos made her a YouTube sensation. Never choosing to don a wig after numerous rounds of chemotherapy made her lose her hair, Castellano lifted her self-confidence by familiarizing herself with makeup. When she started uploading makeup tutorials, she gained a wide following. Many of her videos have views reaching over 500,000, with one garnering an astounding 8 million views.

Castellano was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2007, when she was just 7-years-old. She went in and out of remission over the years, but in 2012 she received the devastating news that the cancer had spread to her bones and that she had developed pre-leukemia. One of her wishes before she died was to meet DeGeneres, a wish that was granted last September. The talk show host invited the teen to her show and let Castellano do her make up before naming her an honorary CoverGirl and giving her a $20,000 check.

"This year I met a very special girl, and today we lost her,” DeGeneres tweeted on Tuesday. “Sending my heart to Talia's family. I'm so sad.” With an Instagram picture of Castellan’s CoverGirl picture, she added, “Thinking of my friend.”
